I began developing the Outcast Player when I was working on ETSU’s podcasting initiative. Originally, I started the project only intending to offer a solution to those individuals who didn’t want to use iTunes as their podcatcher. Over time the project evolved to address some of the limitations of iTunes.

Some features of the Outcast Player include:

• Play both streaming and downloadable files
• Include other enclosures with each episode (PDF files, Word documents, Images . . . )
• Link slideshows to episodes and view them without leaving the player
• Record, save, and upload comments to each episode
• Provide campus-wide alerts and announcements to students
• Organize episodes into folders for easier organization
